About ADINOX C54 Gel Cyanoacrylate

ADINOX® C54 is a gel cyanoacrylate engineered for applications where precise flow control, extended repositioning time, and gap-filling capability are critical. Its thixotropic cyanoacrylate formula delivers a no-drip gel that stays exactly where you apply it - on vertical surfaces, overhead joints, and porous substrates.

With a viscosity of 9,500-12,500 cP - the highest in the ADINOX CA portfolio - this gel cyanoacrylate bridges gaps that low-viscosity cyanoacrylates cannot fill. Its 50-70 second fixture time on carbon steel allows operators to align parts before the bond locks. The cured adhesive achieves 3,480 PSI tensile strength and meets MIL-PRF-46050 Type II Class 4.

Gel Cyanoacrylate for Vertical Surfaces and Overhead Assembly

  • Substrate-dependent cure: neoprene 20-30 s, PVC 20-35 s, ABS 25-50 s, aluminum 30-60 s, polycarbonate 50-75 s
  • Full cure in 24 hours - maximum bond strength development
  • Longer open time vs. standard ethyl CA (typically 10-30 s)

Thixotropic Gel Cyanoacrylate - No Drip, No Run

  • Thixotropic gel - holds shape on vertical and overhead surfaces without sagging
  • 9,500-12,500 cP viscosity - fills gaps that water-thin CA cannot reach
  • Precise dispensing from 20 g and 10.6 oz bottles - no waste, no mess
  • Ideal for porous substrates where liquid CA wicks away

How to Use ADINOX C54?

Surface Preparation

  • Clean surfaces with ADINOX® DS 400 degreaser (or acetone) to remove oils, dust, and contaminants
  • Surfaces must be dry and close-fitting for optimal bond strength
  • For polyolefins (PE, PP), pre-treat with ADINOX® 770 adhesion promoter

Apply ADINOX C54 Gel Instant Adhesive

  • Apply a small amount of C54 gel to one surface only
  • The thixotropic formula stays in place - no drip on vertical or overhead surfaces
  • For gap filling, apply enough gel to bridge the joint completely
  • Avoid excess - thin adhesive films cure faster and deliver higher strength

Assemble and Hold

  • Press parts together and align within the repositioning window (50-70 sec on steel)
  • Hold firmly until fixture is achieved - the gel allows alignment before locking
  • For faster cure, apply ADINOX® 712 Activator to the opposite surface before assembly

Curing

  • Full cure in 24 hours at room temperature
  • Do not stress the bond during the cure period
  • Higher humidity accelerates cure; low humidity slows it
  • Clean uncured adhesive with acetone - cured adhesive can only be removed mechanically

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a thixotropic gel cyanoacrylate adhesive?

A gel cyanoacrylate is a thixotropic instant adhesive with high viscosity (9,500-12,500 cP for ADINOX C54) that stays in place on vertical and overhead surfaces without dripping. Unlike liquid CA, it fills gaps and allows repositioning before the bond locks.

What gap filling performance does ADINOX C54 gel adhesive provide?

As a gap-filling gel adhesive, ADINOX C54 can bridge joints up to approximately 0.020 in. Its 9,500-12,500 cP gel viscosity stays in the gap without wicking away, unlike thin-film cyanoacrylates that require surfaces nearly in contact. For gaps larger than 0.020 in, use ADINOX® C1000 (high-viscosity liquid, 850-1,150 cP) combined with ADINOX® 712 Activator, or consider a methacrylate adhesive from the ADINOX M Series for structural gaps.

Why is C54 described as a no-drip cyanoacrylate?

ADINOX C54 is a no-drip cyanoacrylate because its thixotropic gel formula shear-thins under dispensing pressure and immediately regains its gel structure once applied. At 9,500-12,500 cP, gravity alone cannot cause it to sag or run - unlike liquid CAs that flow freely on inclined or vertical surfaces. This makes C54 the only CA in the ADINOX portfolio rated for true overhead assembly without repositioning aids.

Does ADINOX C54 meet military specifications?

Yes. ADINOX C54 meets MIL-PRF-46050 Type II Class 4, the U.S. military specification for non-metallic, ethyl cyanoacrylate adhesives in gel form. This ensures consistent quality for defense, aerospace, and critical industrial applications.

What sizes is ADINOX C54 available in?

ADINOX C54 is available in two sizes: 20 g bottle for prototyping and low-volume applications, and 10.6 oz bottle for production lines. Contact your ADINOX distributor for bulk pricing.

What substrates does ADINOX C54 bond?

C54 bonds neoprene, PVC, ABS, polycarbonate, aluminum, and carbon steel directly. For difficult substrates like polyethylene and polypropylene, pre-treat with ADINOX® 770 adhesion promoter. Not recommended for glass or silicone.

Can C54 be used on vertical surfaces?

Yes. ADINOX C54 is specifically engineered for vertical and overhead assembly. Its thixotropic gel formula holds shape without sagging or dripping, making it ideal for applications where gravity would cause liquid adhesives to run.

How long does ADINOX C54 take to cure?

Fixture time on carbon steel is 50-70 seconds at 68 °F and 65% RH. Faster substrates include neoprene (20-30 sec) and PVC (20-35 sec). Full cure takes 24 hours. Use ADINOX® 712 Activator to reduce fixture to under 10 seconds.

What is the temperature range for C54?

ADINOX C54 operates from -58 °F to +199 °F. The softening point is 293 °F. For applications requiring continuous exposure above 200 °F, consider ADINOX® C388 which has a higher softening point of 329 °F.
